MATTHIJS VAN BONZEL joined the Corporate Finance and Deal Advisory Department of KPMG Romania in 2015 where he specializes in Human Capital Management, International Business and Mergers & Acquisitions in industries such as agriculture, electricity, energy, and financial services.

Matthijs is an active member of the Netherlands Romanian Chamber of Commerce, The British Romanian Chamber of Commerce, The French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Romania, The American Chamber of Commerce in Romania, The Italian Chamber of Commerce for Romania, The Belgian Connection, and The Belgian Romanian Business Association.

Matthijs was brought up with a deep sense of civic duty and is an active volunteer and donor for the International Women’s Association (IWA) helping raise funds for various charitable purposes through IWA’s annual Christmas Bazaar. Having visited India a number of times, Matthijs organized fundraisers for the Round Table of India, a charity organization dating back to 1936, which provides school supplies for elementary school children throughout India.

Matthijs currently serves as the Membership Chair of the Bucharest Chapter of Karma International. Established in 2005, Karma has become one of the most exclusive, private membership organizations dedicated to connecting exceptional and inspirational individuals both socially and professionally. Through a variety of experiential events, sensational parties and elite social gatherings, Karma empowers its members to forge lasting bonds and friendships, thereby enriching each other’s lives, sharing business ideas and enhancing philanthropic causes.

Matthijs earned Bachelor of Arts in Business Management from the University of Westminster in London, a Bachelor in Business Administration with a focus on Management and Leadership from Nyenrode New Business School in Amsterdam and completed various European law courses at the University of Utrecht and at the University of Amsterdam. Born in Costa Rica, Matthijs spent the first 18 years of his live traveling the world (Belgium, Germany, Japan, El Salvador, Honduras and Panama and Romania) as his father held various diplomatic functions for the government of The Netherlands, leading to Ambassador of Costa Rica, Romania and currently Spain.

Matthijs is fluent in Dutch, English, Spanish, German and has basic knowledge of French and Romanian.
